About the role

This role will be a key figure within our growing engineering function. This is an integral role in our growth plan, and will help shape the future of our infrastructure, as well as our build, deployment and monitoring processes. You will have autonomy to improve the day-to-day operation of a mature, well-tested application regularly used by thousands of people. This role will also play a key part in the development and day to day management of our current Infrastructure engineers.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Provide expertise in technologies such as AWS and Terraform
  • Work closely with the team to make sound technical and architectural decisions
  • Introduce and advocate for improved tooling where required
  • Configure infrastructure to ensure reliable and regular software deployments across multiple solutions
  • Work closely with the team to influence the roadmap and technical direction

About you

In addition, we are are looking for the following:

  • Several years experience building and maintaining infrastructure for modern web applications
  • Extensive knowledge of cloud infrastructure, especially AWS
  • Being comfortable in an environment where all changes are made via infrastructure-as-code (we use Terraform)
  • Experience with APM (we use Datadog)
  • Experience in building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Effective communication with technical and non-technical people
  • Attention to detail is extremely important to us
  • A commitment to documenting technical decisions and features
  • A security-minded approach
  • Appreciation of Agile methodologies: iterative development, pair programming, TDD and continuous delivery of software
